I opened my first GIC with ING :)
It is not a long term one, just a year, at 3.65%. I took $1000.00 out of my condo saving account a placed it in a GIC.
I'm planning on doing the same with the next $1000.00 I'll save up so that I'll get the most interests out of it :)

You should check out ICICI bank. It is not always that easy to open an account with them, but they have better rates that ING. Their one year GIC is currently at 3.75%, for example.
If you want to open an account, send me an email, I'll send you a referral and you'll get a bonus when you open your account. But congratulation for your savings :)

I have GIC's at ICICI and ING... I prefer ING for ease of use, but ICICI does have better rates.
